What are Noise Maps?

Noise Maps show the amount of noise in an open area.  Usually, they show only ‘environmental noise’ – mainly noise from roads and other forms of transport.  Specially-prepared maps may show industrial and construction noise.

Noise maps are created by calculation using sophisticated computer modelling software.  They are not usually made by measuring with a sound level meter.  Nevertheless they are reliable indicators of the typical noise levels to be found in an area.

This website describes the specialist NoiseMap software which is used by many acoustic consultancies and other agencies for making professional noise maps.  It describes how the software works, the features that it provides and the information you need to make a noise map.  If you have any queries, please contact us and we will be pleased to help.
